Provide feedback on the mission statement and guiding principles

You’ve probably already seen this but if you haven’t, please consider providing some feedback!

Dear Campus Colleagues:

On behalf of the mission statement redrafting group, I’d like to thank those of you on campus who’ve offered feedback on the mission and value statements over the past 11 months from the stakeholders’ meeting in January through the most recent draft of the statements.

We think we’re close to having a mission statement that will reflect our institutional raisons d’etre and effectively guide our future decision-making. Many of you said that the last draft of the mission statement was too wordy. We agree; we would have liked to have had a sleek and elegant mission statement that said it all in 20 or so words. However, the fact of the matter is that USG, SACS, and prudence require us to make sure that we capture the full scope of our activities in the mission statement. Besides, we’ve got it down from the one and a half pages of the current statement!

So here’s what we have now. We think we’re close, but welcome your continued input as we finalize the revised mission and value statements. Please let us know what you think by November 29. In the meantime, we will be working on the last part of this triplex; the aspirational vision statement.

Many thanks,

Steve Elliott-Gower
