Debate in chemistry

I thought I’d share an interesting final project that Catrena is doing in an upper level chemistry course. This looks like a great way to get students engaged in applying scientific concepts to a societal issue.

Friday, December 3rd and Monday, December 6th from 9am-10am, my Advanced Analytical students will be holding a debate over smallpox vaccinations. If you are free and would like to listen to what should be a lively debate between students then please stop by Herty 308.

Friday’s Debate
Lauren Griffin vs. Jos Smith – Topic: Should we implement a Full-Scale Vaccination program?
Amanda Vitello vs. Brooke Robles – Topic: Should we keep/destroy any existing stockpiles of smallpox?

Monday’s Debate
Samanthi Abeyrathe vs. Carol Seo – Topic: Should we implement a Full-Scale Vaccination program?
Amber Pentecost vs. David Evans – Topic: Should we keep/destroy any existing stockpiles of smallpox?
