Team to represent GCSU at 2011 SENCER Summer Institute

Several ICBGers will be going to Indianapolis this summer as a team representing GCSU at the annual SENCER Summer Institute. We are appreciative for funding from the Provost and Dean to make this trip a reality.

For those of you who don’t know, Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities is an NSF-funded community of faculty, students, academic leaders, and others to improve undergraduate STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education by connecting learning to critical civic questions. The conference is a great place to learn about effective teaching and efforts at other schools.

Our team consists of:

Valerie Aranda – Art
Will Hobbs – Outdoor Education
Laurie Huffman – Mathematics
Joanne Previts – Middle Grades Education
Gregg Kaufman – Government & Sociology

This team will have an opportunity to apply for a small implementation award through SENCER in order to implement course or curriculum changes that further the SENCER ideals.
