Please attend a forum about the proposed curriculum changes

As you might have heard some fairly substantial changes have been suggested. CAPC is hosting several fora to get feedback from us. I strongly encourage you to attend or provide your feedback in writing to CAPC.

The dates:

University Shared Learning Goals Proposal Forum

  • Friday, November 18, 12:00-1:00
  • Monday, November 21, 1:00-2:00

CUBE Revision Proposal Forum

  • Friday, November 18, 1:00-2:00
  • Monday, November 21, 12:00-1:00

The issues:

University Shared Learning Goals Proposal: In the proposal the general education goals are recast as the University Shared Learning Goals and the goals themselves are revised from the current 11 goals to 4 goals. CAPC is seeking feedback on the proposed changes. In the forum we will present the current general education goals and a brief history of the current proposal along with rationale. We’ll then open the forum for questions and discussion that will inform our committee’s deliberations at the next CAPC meeting.

Cube Revision Proposal: This proposal eliminates the proposed Writing and Speaking overlays from the Georgia College Core Curriculum (CUBE) framework. As you may recall the Board of Regents requires US and Global Perspective overlays for each university in the USG. In our core revision discussions last year Georgia College added our own additional overlays in Writing and Speaking. In the forum we will present the current CUBE framework that was approved by the University Senate last year and the current proposal being reviewed by CAPC. We’ll then open the forum for questions and discussion that will inform our committee’s deliberations at the next CAPC meeting.
