Course description

This course is designed for upper-level environmental science or biology majors. In Agroecology, we will gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals of agriculture, an overview of the agricultural systems currently in use across the globe, an analysis of agricultural systems from an ecological perspective, and a view of the struggle to feed the world.

Prerequisites: BIOL 2800


Course goals

  1. Students will gain fundamental knowledge of the major agricultural systems used in the United States.
  2. Students will be able to apply basic ecological principles to agricultural fields and food production.
  3. Students will evaluate modern food production systems in relation to human and environmental health. 
  4. Students will  create recommendations for the sustainable production of one major agricultural product.
