Newman Civic Fellows Award – Call for Recommendations

Friends and Colleagues,

Please consider submitting a nomination for the Newman Civic Fellows Award ….

Campus Compact 2014 Newman Civic Fellows Award | Call for Recommendations

Newman Civic Fellows are recommended by college and university presidents to acknowledge motivation and ability in public leadership. Georgia College is now accepting recommendations from faculty, staff, students and administrators for President Dorman’s 2014 Newman Civic Fellows Award Nominee.

About the Award

The Newman Civic Fellows Award honors inspiring college student leaders who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. Through service, research, and advocacy, Newman Civic Fellows are making the most of their college experiences to better understand themselves, the root causes of social issues, and effective mechanisms for creating lasting change. These students represent the next generation of public problem solvers and civic leaders. They serve as national examples of the role that higher education can—and does—play in building a better world.

Award Criteria

Recommended students must be of sophomore or junior standing, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and:

  • Go beyond direct service to seek long-term solutions for social issues
  • Inspire and engage others
  • Demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective and long-term civic engagement

TO RECOMMEND A STUDENT, submit a letter of recommendation that describes how the student meets the criteria above. Please include information about the nominee’s approach to addressing the root causes of social issues. These may include, for example, involvement in public policy reform, community organizing, community-based research, social entrepreneurism or other efforts to build the capacity of community-based organizations. We also would like to know why you believe this person has the motivation and leadership potential to make significant contributions to public problem solving and to a network of similarly dedicated students.

Recommended students will be contacted by email to submit a resume and personal profile.

All documents (letter of recommendation, resume, and personal profile) are due February 21 and should be emailed as attachments to leadership.programs.
